In May 1990 I went to travel around the world. A few of us went , strapped on a backpack, bought a Eurorail train ticket and went to the World Cup. The old man fucked off early. Anyway seemed a thing to do.
Spent weeks traveling about Italy, watching games, eating and drinking well, and meeting people from all over the world. I had an absolute ball.
My hair was full, thick and lustrous. little did I know it would vanish completely before I had a chance to appreciate it fully.
The weather was glorious with sunshine and not a rain cloud in sight for weeks on end.
The music during that summer was amazing with MC Hammer, Happy Mondays, Seal and of course New Order pumpimg from our HiFi systems and cassettes.
I had just hit like 207 goals for my junior team, one of the best to ever grace the area, going through the entire season unbeaten winning twenty odd trophies in the process and to top it all I had been signed up by Charlton Athletic School of Excellence.
Life was good. What else could go right?
Let me tell you -Italia 90.
It was there I first smoked a joint, fucked an Italian girl, was taught how to fuck by an older Italian lady, took ecstasy, aged 14! took acid, got fat and unfit for my return and fucked up my chance of any career but oh but it was bliss.
Peter Beardsley of all people, gave us the tickets for all the England games. Paid for our bar and meals few times and I must be one of the few that miised the penaltys cause I was shitting and vomiting at the same time and just heard the massive roars go back and forth which mademe just heave and shit more. Couldn’t give a toss who won at that point. Ifelt I was dead.
Basically that was the high point of my life
